My Weekend in Manchester

If you have read my ‘about me’ page you will know that I recently graduated from University in Manchester. One of my closest friends who I met in my first year and lived with for three years is still completing her course and so me and our other friends decided to visit her for the weekend.

FRIDAY

Seeing as we were only there for three days, we decided to go for dinner in our favourite restaurant called Cottonopolis. It is a bit on the expensive side but their Japanese inspired menu is literally AMAZING and definitely value for money. Also the food plates are perfect for sharing, making it slightly more affordable – happy days!

The main menu is split into ice, fire, steam and oil depending on how the food is served / cooked. My friends and I enjoy choosing a selection, balancing raw and cooked. However, this time we went a bit crazy for the raw fish which wasn’t a good idea seeing as we were going for more drinks afterwards! It was all delicious though so I will still note it below for anyone interested.

Aaaaand a few more at NoHo which is a good bar for spontaneous nights out and is usually quite busy!

Cottonopolis, LIT and NoHo are all in the Northern Quarter and within walking distance of each other.

SATURDAY

Obviously, we were feeling quite fragile on Saturday and slept most of the morning before going to Federal. I’ve been to a few of the cafes in Manchester for brunch but I definitely think Federal is one of my favourites. It’s quite small so if you would like to go, be aware that you might have to queue (especially on the weekend).

Federal is an Australian and New Zealand cafe which serves all day brunch – perfect for waking up late with a hangover! I have previously tried their smashed avocado which comes on sourdough toast with poached eggs and a selection of either streaky bacon or smoked salmon and rocket. This is soooo yummy and I would definitely recommend however this time I opted for their ‘Bloody Mary’ special – poached eggs on sourdough toast with sriracha hollandaise sauce, pulled beef and topped with crispy shallots. It was literally the best brunch I’ve ever had I’m SO glad I decided to have something so different. I also ordered a cold Milo (chocolate milk drink popular in Australia and New Zealand) and a good old English Breakfast tea!

After brunch I met up with my two really good friends from my dance team at uni for drinks because who doesn’t cure their hangover with more cocktails?! We went to Turtle Bay in the Northern Quarter by Federal which is a really fun Caribbean restaurant and bar. We chose three different cocktails and had two of each as it was happy hour.

  • ONE LOVE – Passoa, dark rum, fresh passion fruit & coconut syrup
  • ESPRESSO MARTINI
  • KOKO COLADA – Coconut rum, dark rum, pineapple, coconut syrup & cream, grated nutmeg

I’ve never eaten at Turtle Bay so I’m not sure whether the food is good but it definitely smelt good.

In the evening I went out to a club called LIV with a group of friends. I wouldn’t say its the best club in Manchester but I have been a few times and always enjoyed myself.

SUNDAY

On Sunday I travelled back home by train.

I hope you have enjoyed reading! If you have a favourite restaurant in Manchester please let me know and comment below!
